Cleaning Your Bathroom
Your bathroom can start to get pretty dirty given enough time. Clogged toilets, sinks, and drains are beasts that you’ll most likely need to tame at some point. Cleaning your bathroom, toilet, floors, and bathtub are a few more tasks you’ll want to add to your list. If this feels a little overwhelming, don’t worry. We’ve got some tips and tricks that will make cleaning your bathroom a breeze.
1. Tidy Up The Bathroom
The first step when cleaning your bathroom is to move your various bathroom belongings from their usual spot. The only way to really deep clean is to hit every nook and cranny. Store your toothbrushes, razors, soaps, etc. in a place where they won’t get in the way. If you don’t remove your bathroom staples while you clean, you’re not really getting a deep clean. The places under these items will collect dust and microscopic germs that you’ll want to be able to reach.
2. Sweeping and Dusting
Cleaning your bathroom has to start with sweeping and dusting before anything else. If you start spraying all purpose cleaner before you dust and sweep, you’re going to have a lot of dirty paper towels and sponges to deal with. Sweeping up your bathroom floors is the first step in removing surface level grime from your bathroom. Dusting removes the excess dirt and dust that doesn’t need a sponge to remove. This process will make your life a little easier as you move forward with your deep clean.
3. All Purpose Cleaner
All purpose cleaner is going to be your best friend at this stage in the process. We recommend spraying down any tile, shower, and sink and letting it rest for a minute or two. For the all purpose cleaner to really work, you want to give it time to do its job. While you’re waiting, you can tackle any grout you may have. To do this, dip a grout brush in bleach and really scrub any areas that look discolored or especially dirty. Grout is a porous material and is especially susceptible to bacteria.
After you’ve let your all purpose cleaner do its job, it’s time to start scrubbing! A sponge or microfiber cloth should easily get the job done after letting the all purpose cleaner rest. If you have any really stubborn spots, a soft bristled brush should remove the rest.
4. Toilet
Everyone dreads cleaning the toilet. It’s definitely the worst job in the bathroom. However, toilet bowl cleaner will quickly become your best friend. Liquid or granulated toilet bowl cleaner should do the job just fine. After pouring in, let rest for 5-10 minutes. This could take a little longer if you’re dealing with hard water stains. After you’ve let it sit, get after it with a brush. A quick flush after you’re done scrubbing and your toilet should look as good as new.
5. Dealing with Clogs
A clogged toilet is a nightmare scenario, that’s for sure. Of course, a plunger should be your first choice. Buuut, we’ve all been there, plunging and plunging with no end in sight. If you’re concerned that your blockage might never resolve itself, try out this little tip.
Pour 1 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of vinegar into the toilet
This creates a unclogging dissolving liquid that should work. If even that doesn’t work, try squeezing some dish soap into the toilet and hope for the best.
For a clogged shower drain, you can try a drain snake to remove any blockage. Sometimes, a drain snake won’t work, I dealt with that problem fairly recently. The next step is Drano. You should pour about ⅕ – ⅓ of the bottle down the drain, wait 15 ish minutes, and then rinse with hot water. You should see results almost immediately!
These 5 tips should make your bathroom cleaning a little easier in the future. A final piece of advice, clean your bathroom semi frequently. You won’t need to use half of these techniques if you make it a priority to clean your bathroom at least once a week.
